Aphrastura spinicauda spinicauda (Gmelin)

Length: 14 cms.

Black head prominent yellow – orange superciliar line from the base of the beak to the back of the neck. Brown back with a yellowish green sheen. Lower back yellowish red brown. White throat whitish breast and abdomen. Blackish wings with red base. Coverts black with yellow brown borders. Tail with central tail feathers red brown. Exterior feathers red brown on the ends and dark brown on the base. All without barbs on the points, resembling spines. Short and fine dark beak.
