Band-winged nightjar
Caprimulgus longirostris bifasciatus (Gould)
Length: 24 – 25 cms.
Silver grey head with black mottling. Half collar reddish brown on the nape. White collar on the neck. Upper and lower back and wing coverts grey brown with black and tawny speckles. Breast and abdomen dark tawny with fine black transverse rays. Exterior primaries grey black with a white coloring in each one forming a band when the wings are extended; the rest of the primaries and secondaries like the wing coverts. Tawny tail with dark transverse rays, central tail feathers lighter.
